Hello English speakers!  My name is James and I am from Norwich, a city in the east of England.  I am the owner of Chit Chat Cafe and am here to make sure that you always receive a warm welcome from both me and the other staff that work here.
I have been here in Sapporo for several years and really love the beauty of Hokkaido.  In the summer I love cycling and playing tennis.  During the winter months I am usually indoors in a nice warm place reading a book, or in a karaoke box somewhere singing my heart out.
Our mission here at Chit Chat Cafe is to create a relaxing space for you to use your English.  Practice makes perfect!  It doesn’t matter if you make mistakes.  Just do your best!  We want you to enjoy interesting and fun conversations, to listen and be listened to and also, of course, to practice your own English.
English is a key to all continents and cultures and we want you to be in possession of this key so that the door to the world is open for you.
Be patient, have fun, smile, laugh and never give up!
We really look forward to having you here at Chit Chat Cafe!

I love travelling and meeting people from different countries. We hope this is a place you can practice your English with a relaxing atmosphere while having a cup of tea or coffee. If you want to improve your English, please come along and have a chat with our staff! We are really looking forward to seeing you all at our cafe!

Hi! My name is Damian Busuttil.  I am 28 years old and was born in Malta.  I am married to a Japanese Woman and I have been living in Japan for 7 years now.  I used to live in Osaka.  I think that most people don’t know a lot about Malta.  If you come to CHIT CHAT CAFÉ I can tell you all about my country and show some pictures too. My hobbies are watching baseball and I‘m a big fan of NIPPON HAM FIGHTERS.  I also like listening to music. I can eat all kinds of food like Sushi and Sashimi etc, but I can’t eat lamb. Assel Bitabarova, Kazakhstan
Assel, Kazakhstan

Hi, I’m Assel. I’m from Kazakhstan. I came to Sapporo in April 2009, and since that time I’ve been studying at Hokkaido University. The first day I arrived in Sapporo I had déjà vu - something’s so familiar, some kind of feeling that I am just back from a long vacation… But now Sapporo indeed became my second home. I really enjoy my life here.

Before coming to Japan I’ve been to some countries. I love travelling, it gives me a great life experience as well as a lot of new friends. Through the time I’ve been abroad I understood the power of English - either it is just a short journey, or work/study in any foreign country, English just becomes an indispensable tool to communicate with people from another part of the world.

My major is International affairs. I’ve been interested in foreign countries since I was a child. I’d like to know more about your country, and I’d be happy to tell you about Kazakhstan. Perhaps, for most of you I would be the first Kazakh you’ve ever met :-D

I am eager to talk with you, and I believe you have a lot of things to share with us and something to learn as well. Looking forward to seeing you at our café!

Hien Phan Mach, Germany
Hien, Germany

Hi everyone, my name is Hien. I may not look like that but I am from Germany. Some of you might know the famous Bremen Musicians? That’s my hometown, Bremen. I came to Sapporo in September 2010 to study the Japanese language and since then I am often mistaken for a Japanese girl. My ancestors though are from Vietnam and China.

I love all kinds of outdoor activities and have recently started Snowboarding. In summer I will try rafting, mountain climbing and horse riding. Since Hokkaido offers a lot of outdoor opportunities it would be a pity not to try everything out, right? But I also love the Japanese comedy shows, especially those with Matumoto Hitoshi. Maybe you can tell me more about Hokkaido or Japan in general and I will tell you about my country, the people and the culture there. I hope to meet you soon at the ChitChatCafé.

Anastasia Dovgopolaya, Russia
Ana, Russia

Hello, everyone! My name is Anastasia and I’m originally from Sakhalin. It’s an island in the form of a fish, located in the Far East of Russia, famous for some oil and gas projects. 3 years ago I was transferred to a university in Hokkaido, so here I am. I’ve been living in Sapporo for 3 years and I’m still enjoying every day here. Thanks to my life in Japan, I learned how to break down cross-cultural communication barriers, so I can say I got a priceless life-experience.

I’m very passionate about life and I love everything that gives me new knowledge and experience. My dream is to visit each country in the world.

Living in a foreign country made me understand how important  language is. An ability to speak a foreign language gives you so many chances to communicate with different people and makes your life amazing, so I hope you have the same thinking about that and I’m sure we have a lot of topics to discuss. Looking forward to chatting with you!

Nicola Bernardi, Italy
Nico, Italy

Hey Guys!

I'm Nicola, 23, I'm from Italy and I've been in Sapporo… well, just since this year's April!

Last year I came in Sapporo from April to June to study Japanese and I got the chance to hopelessly fall in love with this city, so… here I am back!

Communication is one of the key aspects of my personality and also the reason I started studying languages. I was lucky enough to be able to study English abroad since I was 6 years old, in high school I studied German for 5 years and... Now I'm currently studying Japanese everyday and I love this country's language, culture and people. I have many many interests, but there's one I'm really passionate about : photography. I take pictures on a daily basis and I would like to make it my future profession.

On the other side, I love music and I play the drums: I'm in fact currently the drummer of a band, here in Sapporo!

Hope to meet all of you soon in Chit Chat Cafè, let's have a great time speaking in English!

Hello to everyone in the Chit Chat community.  It is with great pleasure that I write this and introduce myself to the people of the cafe.  I greatly look forward to meeting many of you and beginning conversations that I hope will inspire you and contribute to your interest in learning English.  I am from the United States.  I grew up in Kansas City and lived for five years in Portland, Oregon (sister city to Sapporo in the U.S.).   Most of my family still lives in Kansas, although I have one sister who lives in Chicago, Illinois.  I have lived in Sapporo since April of this year and am slowly learning the Japanese language.  My interests include music, food, culture, travel, the outdoors and cycling.  Please feel free to speak with me about anything.  I am very happy to share and exchange ideas and cultural customs with you and hope that you will teach me about Japanese culture, as well.

Karina Manayeva, Kazakhstan
Karina, Kazakhstan

Karina

Hello! My name is Karina and I came from Kazakhstan in September 2010 to continue my study here. As a biologist, I love to investigate the mysteries of nature. I like a backpacker`s style of life, travelling, and enjoying beautiful landscapes. Due to study, I have been to wonderful places in some countries with extremely flat steppes, hot deserts, mangroves and coral reefs, high mountains (really, they were very high), lakes and rivers. Everywhere I met friendly and kind people and it was so interesting to exchange experiences with them. Good communication is always a very important thing. I am fond of watching movies as well. While living in Japan, I would like to learn more about this fascinating country, its culture and language. Let`s have a nice and funny chat about everything in the world – life is so colorful!
